Background

When you send a direct message from Slack to a colleague who uses Microsoft Teams, Webex, or Zoom Team Chat, that user will appear under your Apps section. These apps function identically to chatting with a fellow Slack user.

A custom app section helps consolidate all of your colleagues who use Microsoft Teams (or Webex/Zoom Team Chat) in one spot on your sidebar, separate from your regular Slack integrations. This can make chatting with your cross-platform colleagues easier and more organized.

  • Note: Each Slack user will need to follow these steps in their individual accounts.

Creating a custom app section

Step 1

Log in to your Slack account.

Step 2

Navigate to the Apps section in your Slack sidebar and hover over to show the three dots.

Step 4

Select Edit all sections.

Step 5

Check the boxes next to each Teams user's app that you want to add to a custom section.

Step 6

Select Move to... and then Move to new section. Name your custom section. We suggest naming it something like Teams colleagues. Click Create.

That's it! Your new section will likely appear at the top of the left sidebar. Now all of your Teams colleagues are consolidated for easy direct messaging.

Adding or removing users from your custom section

Follow these steps to edit the custom section you created for Teams colleagues.

If you are adding additional Teams user apps, ensure that they are listed under Apps prior to proceeding.

Step 1

Navigate to your custom Teams colleagues section and hover over the three-dot icon.

Step 2

Select Edit > Edit all sections.

Step 3

To add additional users:

  • Find the user you would like to add under Apps. Click the checkbox to the left of each user app. Click Move to... and select your custom Teams colleagues section.

To remove users from your custom section:

  • Select the user you would like to remove from your Teams colleagues section. Click Move to... > Remove from Team.

  • Tip: To delete your Teams colleagues section, select Edit > Delete this section. All Teams primary user apps will return to the Apps section.

You're done! Now, you can ensure that your custom section remains up to date.
